This is the only image I could find of this particular comb form.
It is not common, but the new German proposal for the Phoenix has it as
a specific aspect of the breed. I have now seen this form in a couple of
the breeding programmes in Germany and must admit that it is an elegant
touch to an elegant bird. |

This is the comb form mostly seen in our Phoenix and UK Yokohamas, i.e.
the single comb. In Europe it is required that the Phoenix not have a comb
that lays against the back of the head and that those with 5 - 6 points
are more valued esthetically. In breeding for combs in the roosters, one
must choose carefully the mother. In my experience with breeding fowl, the
form of the mother's comb as well as body is dominantly inherited in her
sons. |

This is a shot of the head of a modern Phoenix, from Rolf Ismer breeding
lines, showing exceptional form and exquisite, small size. This small comb
with 5 - 7 points is like a small tiara on the head of our very elegant
breed. |
